THERAPEUTIC USES.: -
Desvenlafaxine (generic name) is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRIs) prescription drug which is sold under the brand name- Pristiq (Trade name). Healthcare specialist may use the trade name when prescriber referring to the generic drug name. It is used as an antidepressant prescribed to treat the symptoms of depression (major depressive disorder), social phobia (social anxiety disorder), neuropathic pain, and panic disorder.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE.:-
Ø Take Desvenlafaxine exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
Ø Do not take this medicine in a smaller or larger amount or for longer than recommended.
Ø The dosage of the drug depends on the weight, age, height or medical condition of the patient and depend on many factors, then your prescriber will determine your dose schedule.
What if you miss a dose Desvenlafaxine.: -
If you miss or forget a dose of Desvenlafaxine, take it as soon as possible, if it almost time for your next schedule. Skip the forgotten dose and go back to your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
How Desvenlafaxine works.: -
Desvenlafaxine is the major active metabolite of venlafaxine, inhibit the reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine and a weak inhibitor of dopamine reuptake affecting mood, thereby leaving more active neurotransmitters in the synapse.
Desvenlafaxine side effects.:-
Desvenlafaxine may cause some side effects; however, you should always tell your health care specialist if you experience any unusual symptoms.
Ø Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea
Ø weakness, or fatigue
Ø Increased sweating
Ø Dry mouth
Ø Runny nose
Ø Blurred vision
Ø Gas or stomach pain
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
Before taking Desvenlafaxine to talk to your doctor, if you have or had any of the following conditions.: -
Ø Liver(Hepatotoxicity), Kidney, or heart disease.
Ø Eye problems
Ø Bipolar disorder
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING.:-
Let your doctor know before taking this medicine, if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant and if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Let your doctor know if you ever had any kind of kidney diseases.
Let your doctor know if you ever had any kind of liver(Hepatotoxicity) diseases.
Please consult your doctor if you are consuming alcohol. If you use alcohol may increase your side effect so it is good to avoid alcohol while using Desvenlafaxine medication.
Interactions with this medication.:-
For informational purposes only. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicine including OTC or any herbal supplement.
Drugs that may interact with Desvenlafaxine include.:-
Ø Heart and blood pressure medications, including amiodarone and flecainide.
Ø Medications used to treat heartburn, such as cimetidine, lansoprazole, and omeprazole.
Ø Some antibiotics, including ciprofloxacin and enoxacin.
Ø Another antidepressant medicine called a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Examples of MAOIs include moclobemide, isocarboxazid , selegeline , phenelzine and linezolid.
Ø Medicines with oral anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents
Ø Antidepressants, including fluoxetine, citalopram, amitriptyline, paroxetine, sertraline and fluvoxamine.
