THERAPEUTIC USES.: -
Furosemide (generic name) is a loop diuretics or water pills. It is a prescription drug which is sold under the brand name- Lasix (Trade name). Healthcare specialist may use the trade name when prescriber referring to the generic drug name. It is used to eliminate extra water and salt who have problem with Swelling and fluid retention which is known as edema, also used alone or with other drugs to treat high blood pressure(Hypertension) and chronic renal insufficiency.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE.:-
Ø Take Furosemide exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
Ø Do not take this medicine in a smaller or larger amount or for longer than recommended.
Ø The dosage of the drug depends on the weight, age, height or medical condition of the patient and depend on many factors, then your prescriber will determine your dose schedule.
What if you miss a dose Furosemide.: -
If you miss or forget a dose of Furosemide, take it as soon as possible, if it almost time for your next schedule. Skip the forgotten dose and go back to your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten/missed dose.
How Furosemide works.: -
Furosemide blocks the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, it inhibits the water reabsorption in the nephron.
Furosemide side effects.:-
Furosemide may cause some side effects; however, you should always tell your health care specialist if you experience any unusual symptoms.
Ø Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea
Ø Allergic reaction: itching or hives
Ø Chest pain
Ø shortness of breath
Ø Muscle twitching
Ø Ringing in the ears
Ø Loss of appetite
Ø Stomach cramps
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
Before taking Furosemide to talk to your doctor, if you have or had any of the following conditions.: -
Ø Liver(Hepatotoxicity), Kidney, or heart disease.
Ø Difficulty urinating
Ø High levels of uric acid
Ø Low blood pressure or low blood volume
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING.:-
Let your doctor know before taking this medicine, if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant and if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Let your doctor know if you ever had any kind of kidney diseases.
Let your doctor know if you ever had any kind of liver(Hepatotoxicity) diseases.
Please consult your doctor if you are consuming alcohol. If you use alcohol may increase your side effect so it is good to avoid alcohol while using Furosemide medication.
Interactions with this medication.:-

Drugs that may interact with Furosemide include.:-
Ø Beta blockers or ACE-inhibitors (used to treat high blood pressure or heart conditions)
Ø Aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or naproxen.
Ø Antibiotics like cephalexin or neomycin.
Ø Blood pressure or heart medications, such as Lisinopril.
Ø Cyclosporine, Lithium, Phenytoin and Spironolactone.
Ø Lithium, Sucralfate and Methotrexate.
